Validating Design and Capability For VoIP Rollout

Brix Networks is offers a service that tests for how well VoIP will work with a particular potential customer end point.

This gets me wondering what others are doing in terms of testing. Are you doing any modeling before rolling out services, or only paper design and then implementation? If the former, are you using OpNet or some other tool? It the latter, how much time is spent on "tuning" following the roll out? What tools are you using to manage performance?
